Baltimore-area guitarist Joe Stone came by the studio for a few portraits the other day. Joe is a fantastic local player, teacher and all-around great human being. Joe plays for the local bands "The Transporters" and "The Jennifers," and is a patient teacher of, among others, moi.

In a world of tweets, text messages and email, I really love the longer, in-person conversations I get to have during headshot shoots. Recently I've had all sorts of interesting folks in my studio, from businessmen coming out of retirement to start exciting new careers to lawyers working at the Supreme Court.
Olivia the opera singer graced the studio with her presence the other day. She needed a headshot ASAP for a school application, and we were fortunately able to get her in the studio the following day.
While we were shooting, her mom played me some of her lovely singing. I also learned during the shoot that Olivia will be studying engineering (!!) as well as voice, as she excitedly talked about a calculus class. Yes, calculus.
I would wish Olivia well with her future, but I'm pretty sure she doesn't need my help! Just glad I got …
I've known John since he helped me purchase my first house many years ago (he does mortgages, even for pain in the neck self-employed people like myself).
Since then we've kept in touch, and I would notice the crappy DIY headshots he was using online. I said nothing for many years, but finally couldn't take it anymore. So I dropped him a line and said "John, please, for the love of God, get in here!"
I was coming out of the camera store in Baltimore the other day and -- kapow! -- right in front of me is a billboard with my photos ten feet high. It was a nice surprise, and I suppose a good indication that my client (Gilman & Bedigian) liked their photos. Later I noticed the billboards up all over town, competing with my old high school classman Ryan Saiontz (of Saiontz and Kirk). Ryan used to sit behind me in biology class and now has his face on buses all over town!
